Currently, only pickups with a gross vehicle weight rating of 8,500 pounds or higher offer both diesel and gas engines. The back seats don't go down flat like my Grand Cherokee did. An optional cargo organizer opens to a shelf with compartment dividers to keep packages in place, and can be folded flat when not in use. Its tight turning radius is helpful where space is limited, something we discovered while weaving through a stand of tightly spaced trees. The Liberty seats four comfortably and can carry up to five people and their gear.
I was looking for a smaller vehicle for running around in and was interested in the possiblity of using biodiesel. For '05, they have been noticeably improved through the use of dual-density foam. Owners who may have purchased the affected units should contact Timken at 1-330-471-3693 for more information. Braking and handling are pretty sharp for a Jeep, and its easy to park and maneuver due to great visibility. We've also had the opportunity to drive a 2005 Liberty with the new 2. The cargo floor isn't perfectly flat when the rear seats are folded down, however, and that's our biggest gripe with this vehicle. The wider tires of the Limited and Renegade models seem to offer more stability than the narrower tires of the Sport.
Fold the rear seats and it can move two people and some serious cargo. I plan to keep mine for quite a while and I definitely won't be parting with until Jeep puts a diesel in the Liberty again! Grocery-bag hooks and cargo tie-downs are provided to keep things from rolling around. It has never been off the road and only goes over short curbs. The Diesel is backed by a five-speed overdrive automatic transmission. For 10+ years and 150,000 miles my wife, 120lb dog and I used this rig to travel all over North America. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. On vehicles in the recall that are equipped with an aftermarket tow hitch, Chrysler will assess whether the hitch and surrounding areas show evidence of sharp edges or other puncture risks.
Chrysler's recall campaign numbers are N45 for the Grand Cherokee vehicles and N46 for the Liberty vehicles. Remedy Owners may take their vehicles to dealers and the dealers will perform a free inspection of the rear structure. The back seat is like flying in a small single engine plane in severe turbulence. Renegade appeals to a slightly different type of buyer than the basic Sport and more sophisticated Limited models. Pros: Reasonably Priced got a deal! The Diesel gets the stronger five-speed electronic automatic, which benefits from advanced logic. The Limited adds attractive satin chrome highlights to the instrument panel and doors. Washed out roads, snow, ice no problem.
The Jeep Liberty offers a good balance for someone who enjoys the outdoors. I chose the Renegade because I do not like the front end on the Liberty Sport. The deisel engine has alot of torque and will pull about anything although it is limited by the braking ability I was actully pushed though a stop sign once while towing a utility trailer because I forgot the trailer was back there The only negative thing I would say is there is a bit of a lag before the turbo kicks in but you do get used to it. Handles well in snow, mud, rain, sand, rocks, etc. In terms of exterior dimensions, the Liberty fits between the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Tow hooks and a bright silver metallic applique across the new molded-in color front fascia are standard features.
Having a trail rated 4 wheel drive car was also a life saver in the snowy conditions of Colorado. A new body-color grille is part of the re-styling for 2005, as are large freestanding fog lamps with black bezels, and a new sill to protect the body sides from road blast. Just wish it was a little larger and more fuel efficient, averaged 17mpg before lifting and 15 mpg after 2. But the long-travel off-road suspension, set up to absorb impact without being overly harsh, makes for lethargic transient response in lane-change maneuvers. On vehicles already equipped with a Chrysler designed tow hitch, Chrysler will inspect the area around the tow hitch installation, and if any installation issues are identified, they will be repaired free of charge.
Rocks will contact the skid plates, a sound we experienced although we suspect no harm was being done. If so, Chrysler will replace the tow hitch with a Chrysler designed tow hitch free of charge, provided the condition of the vehicle can support proper installation. Textures and finishes are nicely done. As of right now, I love my Jeep Liberty!! These front wheel hub units can be mistakenly sold to owners and installed on 4X2 versions of the Jeep vehicles. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The fuel tanks in these vehicles are at risk of failure and leakage in certain rear impacts. We've found the Liberty capable of handling fairly gnarly trails.
This is no gas saver. Chrysler's recall campaign numbers are N45 for the Grand Cherokee vehicles and N46 for the Liberty vehicles. Day in and day out, it takes the place of a car or wagon. I don't like the windows controls in the center console. Sport seats we tried in '04 felt firm in the middle, but the side bolsters were too mushy to provide much side support. The Liberty's body is tall, providing the driver with a commanding view of the terrain ahead. However, a locking rear differential is available as a factory Jeep Liberty strikes a balance between off-road capability and on-road sophistication.
